What to Expect During Civil Works Drainage and Guttering Upgrades

Posted on

Civil works handle many of the roadway issues you have in towns and along the highways connecting those towns. One of the issues that civil works will handle is when there are severe flooding and drainage issues in particular areas. One way they do this is through a process of excavation, setting new drainage and placing new guttering. If this is planned for your area, there are some things you should expect and prepare for.

Removal of Road

One of the key steps in a drainage and guttering upgrade is to remove the current roadway that is causing the issue. The issue with drainage may be that the road slope is not ideal for draining rainwater from the roadway to the side and into the road guttering system. You may also have the issue of numerous potholes or cracks in the road that are catching debris, eroding the rest of the road and causing significant drainage issues. With all of these things in mind, the current roadway will likely be the first to go.

Excavation Process

The second step in a drainage and guttering civil works upgrade is the excavation process. This is to help ensure all of the old roadway issues are removed, the proper flow needed is created and the area for the guttering is dug to the right depth for proper flow. This process will require the civil works contractors to possibly come onto your property. If this is required, and any excavation needs to be done on your property line, you will be notified. This notification will allow you to contact civil works and determine if there are any steps you need to take during this time.

Roadway and Drainage Placement

Once the area has been cleared and the new slopes and guttering ditches have been placed, it will be time to replace the roadway and place the new drainage. Your civil works department will have contractors repave the road and place the new gravel or drainage ditches that will line the roadway in your area. This step may cause issues with reaching your office or dwelling by car. This means you may need to make arrangements for parking or for accessing the areas you need to access.

Your civil works department will notify you regarding any guttering and drainage upgrades they are planning for your area. This notification should contain a timeframe for the work and what to know about the work. This may include special parking details or accessing your home during the roadwork. If you have any questions, you can send them to the civil works department via email or social media.
