Does your home feel dull and dreary? The best way of brightening up your living spaces would be to maximize on natural lighting. However, not many homeowners know the best way of going about this. You may consider increasing the windows in your residence, but this can prove quite costly. Instead, you could consider home renovations that would try to maximize on the available illumination that you are receiving. Here are some home renovation ideas that you could use to brighten the various living spaces in your residence.

Incorporate glossy surfaces in your home

One of the easiest ways to enhance the illumination in your home is by opting for glossy surfaces. Nevertheless, this does not mean that you should opt to paint your walls shiny colours in an attempt to reflect natural lighting. Instead, establish the different surfaces that can be coated with gloss to make them reflect the lighting that is available to you without compromising on their appearance. Some of these surfaces would include changing your kitchen bench tops, cabinetry, countertops and more. In tandem, all these surfaces can create additional swathes of brightness in their respective rooms.

Opt for white paint

Granted, some people may view all white walls a tad sterile for their liking. However, if you are contending with dimly lit rooms, then one of the best ways to counter this would be to incorporate flawless white walls. It should be noted that opting for paler hues of white such as cream or eggshell may not give you the desired results. The starkness of plain white has a propensity of reflecting light, so it would be ideal to incorporate this colour into ceilings, flooring, walls, stairways and more.

Use mirrors in the different rooms

Mirrors have been known to create the illusion of space in cramped spaces. They are also a great way to enhance the overall illumination of your home. However, you do not have to stick to conventional mirrors to achieve this. For instance, in the kitchen you could choose to install mirrored glass splashbacks. Not only will they reflect light, by they also would make your kitchen look bigger. In the living room, you could opt for mosaic mirror tiles on one wall. As these reflect the natural lighting, they also create visual interest in the room, which improves the overall aesthetics.
